Ways to register to volunteer for Hunger Walk:

Sunday, May 27, 2012

  • 10:30am-3:00pm – EVENT SET-UP (Sawyer Point) – This position requires the ability to lift, pull and move heavy objects, hang banners, help move set tents, prepare park for event (15 volunteers)
  • 11:45am-4:00pm – WEEKEND PACKET PICK-UP (Mayerson Distribution Center) – Provide entrants who have registered for the race prior to race day with their designated race number and timing tag. (10 volunteers)

Monday, May 28, 2012

  • 6:30am-11:30am – VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION – Checking volunteers in and directing them to their day’s assignment. (FULL)
  • 6:30am-11:00am – PRE-REGISTRATION AND BREAKDOWN/FOOD AREA – Provide entrants who have registered for the race prior to race day with their designated race number and timing tag. After the race, distribute water, fruit and other refreshments to race participants. Unpack refreshments as needed and collect discarded water containers and refreshment wrappers. Assist with breakdown as needed. (25 volunteers)
  • 6:30am-11:00am – REGISTRATION AND BREAKDOWN/FOOD AREA – Assist new entrants who are registering for the race by helping them to fill out the proper registration paperwork, accepting entry fees, and then providing each entrant with a race number and with timing tag. After the race, distribute water, fruit and other refreshments to race participants. Unpack refreshments as needed and collect discarded water containers and refreshment wrappers. Assist with breakdown as needed. (30 volunteers)
  • 6:45am-9:00am – PARKING DIRECTORS – Assist in directing traffic at Sawyer Point’s parking lot. (8 volunteers)
  • 6:45am-9:00am – PEOPLE DIRECTORS – Individuals will be placed at strategic locations around the venue to direct race participants and other volunteers to specific locations throughout the venue. (10 volunteers)
  • 7:00am-11:30am – RACE DAY RECYCLING – Volunteers will be responsible for emptying recycling receptacles throughout the event and staging all recyclable materials in a designated area for transport after the event. (4 volunteers)
  • 7:00am-11:00am – T-SHIRT SALES (2 volunteers)
  • 7:00am-9:00am – REGISTRATION ASSISTANT – Provides assistance to the registration process for those registering on the day of the race (3 volunteers)
  • 7:45am-10:30am – FINISH CHUTE – Volunteers are responsible for removing timing chips from runner’s ankles and placing them in plastic bags. (12 volunteers)
  • 7:45am-10:30am – RACE COURSE DIRECTORS – Individuals will be positioned at intersections with police to direct race traffic to stay within the race course. Race Course Directors ensure that no runners or walkers stray from designated course into moving traffic. This individual will also act a cheerleader and morale booster for race participants. (20 volunteers)
  • 7:45am-10:30am – WATER STATION ATTENDANTS – Water Station Attendants are responsible for filling and handing out disposable cups with water or water bottles. They will also be in charge of collecting all discarded cups or bottles along the course and placing them in the trash bags provided to them. (10 volunteers)
