Mobile Pantry
What is the Mobile Pantry?
The Kraft Foods Mobile Food Pantry is a 26-foot refrigerated truck that easily and efficiently distributes up to 10,000 pounds of nutritious food. The Freestore Foodbank uses the Mobile Food Pantry to deliver shelf stable items and refrigerated food to areas where there are gaps in our service.
Having a Mobile Food Pantry with a refrigeration unit is revolutionary for us – it allows us to get fresh produce, dairy and bakery items and other staple products to areas where we were not able to do so regularly in the past. Additionally, it provides a nimble solution for food distribution to those affected by emergencies and natural disasters like flooding
How many customers does the Mobile Pantry serve?
The Kraft Foods Mobile Pantry delivered 793,132 pounds of food between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010. That was enough to feed 37,759 individuals.
How Does the Mobile Pantry Work?
A host agency will schedule a distribution through the Freestore Foodbank. There are nominal program fees associated with each distribution, to cover incidentals and food costs.
- The host agency will receive and distribute up to 200 mobile pantry tickets for families in need in their community. The more food scheduled for the distribution, the more tickets the agency will receive.
- Any product remaining after each distribution will be kept on-site by the host agency for distribution at a later date.
