2/29 – 3/18/12 Fifth Annual Cinciditarod
"2012 Canstruction."The fifth annual Raymond James Cinciditarod, benefiting the Freestore Foodbank, is planned for noon on Saturday March 3. Cinciditarod is a wacky shopping cart race through Cincinnati that starts and finishes on Fountain Square. It’s named in tribute to the Alaskan Iditarod, which is a brutal 1,100 mile dog-sled race. However, instead of dogs, it’s people; instead of sleds, it’s shopping carts; and instead of Alaska, it’s Cincinnati. While physically attached to a grocery cart, teams of five, dress in creative costumes, push through a nearly five-mile course over the city streets, picking up items on a grocery list and stopping at five mandatory checkpoints. If you’re interested in registering or want to learn more about the race…Click here.
Ongoing Grassroots Efforts
Members of the Greater Cincinnati community are urged to start their own grassroots efforts by organizing neighborhood food drives, collection challenges and/or learning about ways to volunteer. A great way to organize a neighborhood food drive is through the new virtual food drive, available at www.freestorefoodbank.org.
